On May 16, we hosted our first fundraising event for Fight CMD, and we are still in awe of the incredible support our family received!
When Betsy first received her CMD diagnosis, we were devastated and unsure of what the future held. While those feelings still exist, the overwhelming support from our community has allowed hope and optimism to stand right alongside them.
Since the launch of our first GoFundMe campaign through the inaugural Elephant Run, Fight CMD has raised $199,105!
These funds have enabled our research team to initiate phase one of developing a gene therapy for B3GALNT2-Related CMD. In this critical foundational stage, our team is developing treatment prototypes to target the genetic root cause of this disease, while simultaneously engineering a humanized mouse model harboring the B3GALNT2 gene to study the safety and efficacy of these experimental therapies.
This work lays the groundwork for the first gene therapy to treat CMD. We could not have launched this effort without the support of every single donor, sponsor, vendor, runner, and walker who contributed their time and resources, believed in our mission, and showed up to lift us up.
As we look back at photos from the Elephant Run, we are reminded that we cannot do this work alone. With the strength and generosity shown by all of you, we are more optimistic than ever that we will change the outcome of this disease.
Together, we can and will make a difference for children and families fighting CMD every day
